FHMCC'S Sally Buxton Night - 13th October 2017

There was a full house at the community council's Sally Buxton night on the 13th October when local ladies had a great social get together and some special messages from Sally and her friends. The event raised over £700 for the community council and these funds will be used within Forehill, Holmston & Masonhill to benefit our community. Thanks to Forehill Outdoor Bowling Club for providing their premises for the night and to our community councillors Samantha, Sarah and Mary for organising the event.

Forehill Library Fundraiser

The Librarians at Forehill Library have done it again and arranged another splendid fundraiser, this time for the worlds biggest coffee morning in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support. The afternoon was a great success with lots of goodies on sale courtesy of the Forehill Knit and Knatter ladies who meet in the library each week. All proceeds went to the charity.

Kyle Academy Pupils Spring Into Action

Green fingered pupils of Kyle Academy have recently been out and about in the Community helping elderly local residents tidy their gardens in a spring clean-up.

The project was the brainchild of Kyle Academy Campus Officer Peter Sykes and Forehill, Holmston & Masonhill Community Council. With the backing of the school, Peter called for pupil volunteers to carry out the local community initiative and was well rewarded with a fantastic group of enthusiastic pupils who took to the task with relish.

Their project was advertised earlier in the year throughout the area by Forehill, Holmston & Masonhill Community Council and homes were selected from the feedback. Residents who had work carried out by the team were delighted with the end result of the boys' hard work.

John McGuire, Chair of FHMCC commented that when different sections of the community work together things can get done and it certainly came up roses all round for Local Residents, Kyle Academy, FHMCC and most of all the cheery band of lads who worked so hard to help those in the Community who were in need of a hand.

Forehill Textile Group win £1000 Grant

We would like to congratulate Forehill Textile Group who recently knitted together a successful bid through Ayr South Decides II whose funding will be used to purchase new machines and fabrics.

The group was formed when some of the ladies in the area became aware of the success of the children's textile group and thought it would be a great activity for adults too. It is open to local Residents who have an interest in any form of textiles, eg knitting, sewing, embroidery, crochet etc.

Projects to date have included making bunting and woodland creatures for the recent ‘yarnbomb’ at Belliesle for the voluntary arts week as well as a very successful Easter bonnet competition. The ladies use mostly recycled/up cycled fabrics (curtains etc) which they transform into soft toys and soft furnishings. Their long term goal is to become self-sufficient through the sale of their beautifully made goods at local craft fairs and galas and with that in mind the next project is to create a banner/backdrop for their stall.

The Group meet each Monday from 2pm to 4pm in Forehill and offer a warm welcome to any local Residents who are interested in joining. People with all levels of experience, from little or none to the more advanced, are welcome. The group have different skills and everyone is happy to share them.

This is a free activity with members donating 50p when requested to cover the cost of tea and biscuits.
If you would like to join, or find out more, contact the Group Organiser, Sandra Taylor by mobile on 07812578101 or email Sewinginthehut@btinternet.com.
